🏛️ What is the SSC?

Every LAUSD school has an elected School Site Council (SSC) representing parents, students, staff, and community members. Together, they shape school goals and directly allocate local campus funding.

Core Responsibilities

Area SSC Action
📊 Data Analysis Review student achievement, attendance, and behavioral performance.
💬 Community Input Gather feedback directly from families and local stakeholders.
📝 Plan & Budget Co-create the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and site budget.
🔍 Oversight Monitor ongoing progress and verify funds are used effectively.

 

Council Composition

  • 🏫 Principal: Serves as an automatic council member.

  • 🍎 Teachers: Elected directly by their teaching peers.

  • 📋 Other School Staff: Elected by non-teaching campus staff (classified personnel).

  • 🎓 Students: Elected directly by their student peers (optional in middle schools).

  • 👥 Elected Parents & Community: Chosen directly by parents of participating students (and secondary students, where applicable).

  • 🌐 Diverse Representation: Must reflect the socioeconomic and ethnic makeup of the entire attendance area.

 

The 4-Step School Planning Process

Step 1 Collect & Review Data

Examine academic tests (such as i-Ready, CAASPP, reclassification), culture metrics (attendance, suspensions), and family surveys.

Step 2 Analyze Trends

Identify clear patterns, strengths, and gaps across student groups to write a data narrative.

Step 3 Update the Action Plan

Refine the school's SPSA strategies, interventions, and programs based on current student needs.

Step 4 Align the Budget

Allocate school funding directly to finance the specific strategies outline in the updated plan.

How You Can Participate

  • 🗳️ Join Meetings: Attend scheduled SSC, ELAC, and community planning sessions.

  • 📋 Complete Surveys: Fill out annual family and student surveys so your priorities show up in the data.
