Welcome to AIAT
Discover the Academy of Integrated Arts and Technology (AIAT) program, where every class is designed to foster student success with an optimal class size of just 25 students. In our co-taught academic classes, your child will benefit from the expertise of up to three adults, including a General Education Teacher, Special Education Teacher, and a paraprofessional. Our program offers students exclusive access to a student lounge for indoor lunches, a quiet room for mindfulness and self-regulation, and cohorted classes so teachers can monitor student success across academic subjects.
The AIAT prides itself on delivering rigorous, high-level curriculum without high-level stress. Our curriculum integrates social-emotional learning, organizational skills, time-management, and goal-setting strategies. We emphasize the arts, technology, and project-based learning, all within a mastery learning and grading framework. With opportunities for small group instruction and peer-to-peer modeling, AIAT is committed to creating an engaging, supportive, and holistic educational experience for every student.
The AIAT is a unique LAUSD full-inclusion gifted program. It starts on the beautiful campus of Portola Charter Middle School for grades 6-8, then students continue the program at Taft Charter High School's diverse campus for grades 9-12. Our student body is composed of gifted learners of all kinds, some of whom are designated Twice Exception (2E). A Twice Exceptional "2E" student is a student who is identified Gifted/High Achieving and has been identified as having a disability with an active Individual Education Program (IEP). Students with a Section 504 plan are reviewed and considered along with the General Education students are are placed into the selection lottery after being deemed qualified. All gifted students are strongly encouraged to apply.
