Welcome!
I am so excited to begin a new year at the Academy! A little bit of background on me: I grew up in Southern California. I graduated from UCLA with my BA and from Pace University in New York City with my master's degree. I began my teaching career in 2001 in New York City, and I returned to Los Angeles in 2003 to continue my career as a teacher. After teaching in other LAUSD schools, I was fortunate to come to Portola in 2008. I hold a multiple subject credential as well as a supplemental credential in mathematics. I have also earned my National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Mathematics.
I am an ardent fan of all things geeky, especially Disney, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Marvel, Star Trek--and did I mention Disney?? I am also a loyal Swiftie thanks to my 8 year-old-daughter. 🫶
I absolutely love being a teacher. I set high standards for my students, yet I also strive to provide an environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and learn from these mistakes. I am grateful for students who ask questions, and I try to make all my students feel comfortable in sharing their thinking. Students—come to me any time you feel confused, curious, or frustrated. I am here to help you succeed!
