there's so much information that we want to separate it out so today's information is purely about signing up for the parent portal account and then schoology do the parent portal account for every parent to have to go through this in might might terminology might be wrong so so miss Olin and mr. You can jump it through this web page you can do a lot for yourself so you can do your emergency card you can check your student's grade your student immunization records everything's on there even from elementary all the way to high school a great way to look to see if the records we have is what you want if it's correct hay and rather than coming in and letting us know that you have a new phone number much more convenient you can go on the parent portal and just change information you want to do this. That's one of the key reasons why Parent Portal is near useful and once you set it up it's yours forever so it's a it's a it's a great resource for you all right we'll go to the next patients do it okay so schoology schoology lives within the parent portal and the schoology piece of the parent portal it's how you can communicate with your teachers your child's teacher it also allows you to see the assignments that the teachers are posting and then you can see if your child has turned in at at find it or not and it's a very useful cuz I have two kids they're twins but they're they're wonderful kids but their kids they're at their teenagers and if I know that an assignment was due and I'll check on schoology but it's still showing zero and the it's a great way for me to remind my child Steve did you remember to turn that in and sometimes they have it but it's in their locker or are they in her backpack and I forgot it or sometimes they say I did turn it in But the teacher is showing that it wasn't turned and so my child can go to the teacher and they can double-check right away before weeks and months go by and then it's too hard to backtrack to find out if an assignment was turned in her it gives you really great minute-by-minute access and it also allows you to communicate with your child teachers as well the school and she is an absolute must for every parent and it's so convenient we're going to show you how to download the app to your phone as well and then literally on my phone I will check and some I should do it I'm not a tiger mom but sometimes it by Noah they had a big  you know I'm I'm guilty of going on it during the day and you know kind of seeing oh gosh I hope they did well and then it mean that nervous tension for them too but it's a great resource for you so we're going to help you get that out today all right it was one of the reasons why you're here and we thank you okay so we're going to start with the parent portal you have to have a parent portal account first before you can have the schoology account so what you will need is is internet access and if if your internet access in your home is poor because of the area you live in that's fine too you can request the hotspot from The District in another presentation but I'm all touch on that later so you need that you need to have email account that you use regularly go to know your student ID number that's your District student ID number you can find it on any previous report card if you can't find it usually it's also on your students I'm at there in secondary school there photo ID card is on there as well or just give us a call our office and then they'll ask you a lot of verifying questions before they give out the student ID but we can give it to you over the phone to your child's birthday and then happening now is eat there a lot of pin number to take a photo of it or write it down and keep it somewhere each parent has a PIN number for each child so in my household I got you pin free child my husband has two pins one for each child and they're different and then each child has their own student pin so it's important to keep those somewhere and know the difference so this is something you need to have ahead of time with you next to you before you start the process and smoke really quick for 4 if your child if you need your child support we send it through the US mail but you need to get it from each school they go to so if you have kids from different schools you need to get the the pin the parent pin for that child from their school in order to add them as well and then of course I forgot the other thing though the students only you don't need the student then you only need two pair so we've mailed out all the parent pin it was a mass assembly line here and we mailed them out to you you should be getting it in the mail sometime this week if you don't let us know because that means the address that we have on file for you may not be the address you want us to you so look for it this week and what we sent to you so far is a parrot in our goal was really to send you the student in as well but they're not ready or our system is not showing the parent pins at this time so that'll come in another Mahler student parents aren't as important right now because the teachers are going to walk them through it the first week of school step-by-step specially are sixth graders or 7th and 8th grade they know it very well by now but are sixth graders will be walk through it and the beauty of this is now that the elementary schools have started to use it last year lot of them are going to come with it already you know set up and then the process will be second nature to them next and I really want to thank you for sticking with us activate your account by clicking on one of the brain a browser on the LAUSD to mobile. enter your email and password be the criteria you are receiving notifications communicating with your LAUSD account was activated to the right of the screen enter your email address and the password you created you will be asked if you would like to receive the parents to handle via email select yes or no and so far there's been a lot of information so I want to I want to backtrack a little bit cuz some of the things that I said I learned first of all it is Islam remember if you just Google LAUSD Parent Portal it comes right up K it with your somewhere you can't remember this just Google LAUSD Parent Portal that's what I still do next do it click on log on a register but since you're all new to the parent portal the next fight is going to be register you want to get to the register part after you've created it in future it'll be hey so here is this where you see you want to do register for a new account after you register your going to go here to parent log-in in the future all right so let me think what what else did where did I get mixed up okay so I find clicking continue on your web browser much easier than LA with T-Mobile app don't do the mobile app doesn't work well UC browser that's what I learned is to Miska Siri all right here because it's your child's record they really want the password to be super super duper secure the just look at this more often than not when parents are frustrated it's because they didn't need one of these criteria so the nice feature now that they have that they didn't have before the exes will turn to Green so you'll know exactly why the password that you're choosing is not working and it's long it's at least 10 characters long so please write his passwords somewhere because yeah I can't ever remember my password cuz it's so long I have it written down all right next one I wanted to show you a toothbrush you will receive a notification communicating your LAUSD account was acting like on the first logo parent portal to the right of the screen here now after you registered and created your password you're going to have you go back and now truly login okay so this is a step that sometimes trip parents up because it feels like you are just registered and logged on why do I have to do it again hey so be sure to do that enter your e-mail address and then do this this is where parents get trip to and my parents getting tripped up I'm talking about so you're learning from my mistakes you want to put your email address that you just you not a different email address the one that you just used to create a parent portal account and then bypass word they don't mean email password it's not the password to your e-mail except 10 digit password that you just created for your parent portal so that's another mistake that I made you know when we're doing this with multitask doing a million other things and we're trying to do it quickly so learn from my mistakes were you created you will be asked if you would like to receive the parent student handbook via email select yes or no and click submit you have successfully created your leusd parent portal account hey and I'm going to stop sharing my screen that has the video and we'll go back to the presentation screen so why don't we stop here it's a good stop rain and time if you can't make it during the signs time don't worry we will have makeup days and time down the line that we have a few weeks till Central School start so I don't want you to panic right so why we're doing this early so you can have the next 2-3 weeks to do this fine you know a quiet 20 minutes out of your day sometime and and do it is also on our website and will email it to you too it's just a printed book end of everything that the video went through okay so this one actually includes how to how do you link your student to your account it's not just registering Kaitlyn to that page and then we will talk about it let's go to those okay I want to show those ages cuz you think you're done right I celebrated woohoo I but there's a lot more we're better Third Way done with the process so once you create the account the next thing you have to do is add your children and and you have you can add each child you don't have to do it all at 1 so for example if you have a child at Portola and you have all the information you need to add your Portola child you can do that if you got another child in elementary school but you haven't got any info you can come back to it so what you want to do the so far we've done steps 1 through 4 via the video now what you want to do is add the students Eve on the button add students it walks you through it and there's screenshots so it'll show you okay so you type in the information and then the student will pop up when this dude. You have to click on that student and add the student it doesn't happen automatically okay and then the next thing you also have to do step fade as click on the Finish button so there multiple steps to ensure that you are adding the correct child to your account yes so it looks like once you click submit or at a student it looks like you're done but you're not on the right hand side where it says 5 and 6 it pops up your name to show that you're the parent and then you finish to agree that that to you yes thank you so just remember that there are eight actual steps you have to do to add one child and you'll repeat this process for your other all right once you've done that and you'll see your your student's name and I'll try to log on as a parent and you know like four kids are always a guinea pig and then I'll try to show you what it looks like all right so once you get on and your child is there you have to click on each child what is a time one at a time to get to their pay okay so for example I have a son and a daughter I want to look at my son's record I'm going to click on my son's name and then this will pop up and then once this screen popped up look at all this information you have it your way do you can see their grades you can see their test scores from 2nd grade all the way on up right-hander dies testing is the state test scores you want to see you know I don't ever remember what immunizations I turned in and what I still need to do you can go on that and it'll tell you I still need to do the Tdap where I need to turn in to know whatever it is some of these may not apply for you for example real progress is for learner's if your child is not an English letter there's not going to be anything there for them online forms and applications this is wonderful too if you wanted to apply for the federal meal program you do it right there if you want to get involved in volunteer at Portola you have to have gone on and filled out the school volunteer application for the district so this is a great one stop area for you okay and then you want to see how many days has my child miss this year you can take a look right there okay this one is really great emergency car show in the mail you Steven Hart the copy which by now if you're in Middle School you've done is 678 x ready for all the different grade we still asked you to fill out the hard copy and send it to us because for emergency purposes we want to have that our copy is what happens if there's a fire drill or you know we have to evacuate to the schoolyard we take those hard copies with you or not necessarily going to have our computer to access it but we also ask you to go on Parent Portal and fill out all the information because if you come to check out your child and if a friend comes to check out your child will go right here cuz you've already said mrs. Smith or you could pick up my child and it'll be in the system so we asked you to go there as well okay alright so that's what it looks like the second video of my that where I am assuming now I can't hear you yes the schoology video okay okay now once you've done the parent portal so remember step mine is creating and count get to is doing the 8 little mini steps to add your children to the parent portal then you can do the emergency card test scores you got all that information at your fingertips the last step is the schoology p and schoology is a learning management system that lives within Parent Portal that gives you access to their their weekly grades and weekly test an assignment and also gives you a chance to communicate with the teacher as well okay so I'm going to show you a little video on there if you're not sharing oh oh oh sorry this is why I need lots of support from my wonderful staff what do you see now miss Olin I see it a shark guy would explain how to log into New York child support what is the legal guardian start by going to the following address https slash forward slash Parent Portal LAUSD net sales to buy it he was an associate your child to your account videos 08 jah9 B can you pause it for a second yeah please don't try to memorize the that address we'll have the links on our website and just go there there's also when they mention that doesn't work anymore I tried very hard to get it to work but it does not so we will have all the ones that do work available for you on the website and the directions to get there instead of remembering the long URL just type in Google LAUSD Parent Portal and it comes right up eat ice cream. L y Parent Portal you make contact the LAUSD parent help desk 203-443-1300 the green button of Grace in Italian how many quarts is fine to your child if this is your first time be okay so let me stop there because that green button is important to remember there was a I think she pros of all different buttons emergency card was a red button do way to get into schoology from Parent Portal is the green button to remember the green pipe open camera for social psychology it will be asked you now have the option of login to parent portal at http Schoology stop right there what you see as a parent in schoology is different they want your child sees and 4G so I have I have it set up to what I can see cuz I I I like to a snapshot of what assignment is due and you know did my child turn it in and what did my child get it is in the student view there's so much more detail you'll see every little comment that the teacher has about the assignment every reminder StudentVue has much more detailed information for me as a parent it's a little too much information so I let you know my child a lot of parents like to back and forth and see what the StudentVue is to on the left side of the romance languages on the right side of it to give your child a grave or sinus Quizlet directions to China Star overdue you would like to contact one of your child number for okay so that was a lot of information you will become familiar with schoology as you start using it more you know just like with any other application it's impossible to learn it all at once most important thing is I have for a portal account nearest Child Link it to you schoology and then the rest you'll become expert alright so here's the last part and this is optional but I highly recommend it so we're going to show you how to do that some of us aren't in front of our computers all day long checking though it's nice to have it on our cellphone so you want to download the schoology app on your cell phone it works with iOS iPhones why was Android so download that you'll know it's the schoology app because it has the company logo with the ssys in the circle blue circle around it once you download it answer your phone and you open the schoology app it looks like this what you need to type in is LMS lausd.net so when it asks you to find your don't put in Portola Middle School for LAUSD you have to put in l a l m s a p blurting management system. Lausd.net that allows your app on communicate with LAUSD servers and also the information that's in there a drop down menu should come up and you'll see this Los Angeles Unified School District LMS. Lausd.net nothing else fits come up alright then it takes you to miss green and it looks familiar because it looks like what it did on your laptop or your desk is in a lot of pain if you want to see the parent view in a log in at the student if you want to see what your child sees I login on my phone as a parent this is a screenshot of my schoology page on my phone and what I get is update that my child's school has posted so Veronica Gonzalez is a counselor at my child high school so I see posted a they do so the first page you go this is what you're going to see like little updates of the school sending out okay where to get your child you want to go to the top right corner and you'll see these three lives so sorry yes byd by staff click on the left and then the next screen comes up which looks like this so there's a lot you can do on your schoology page you might get messages you can even join courses there's different horses if if she offers but we don't do any of that I just go to my children so quick on my children and then remember your children they're not going to show up if you didn't do the first part of Stein launch of the parent portal and linking your children so everything you're trying to get everything like puzzle pieces to connect together all right once you go to my children you'll see the more button on the right side with three by Katana 3 button and then it'll give you your choices I've got two names under there my daughter and my son you might have one or three or four more to go back and forth from your child and then you'll see the forces of the grade if I miss that are turned in not turned in so that's that's really handy okay all right should we let off PowerPoint Miss Olin and answer questions are we going okay miss you Siri yes okay good so far I mean I've answered most of them just a little bit of confusion about the pins we have two sets of pins the students in the parents spend in order for you to set up your account most of the questions harder than that most of it has been answered so the parent can as fast as US Postal Services today I we were hoping it would come today but maybe tomorrow it's all the mailed out again if you don't receive anything by the end of the week please do give us a call that means that you know we might have the wrong home address for you that we went to crap that okay so I just want to show you how cuz I'm such a schoology convert I want every parent to use it so this is my schoology app I Got 5 messages right now from my kids school so hopefully I'll check it before it's done you can see I didn't check it that often cuz it's there's a message from me here I'm here at the little button talking about with the three lines click on that you click on my children and then you'll see there you go here the more right now the and then you'll see I've got a choice of my children here and I can click on them right now there's not a lot of information is empty they've got no point which is good but as school starts to get closer to school I'll actually see my kids horses I'll see who their English teachers or history teacher and then as the weeks go on I'll be able to see what assignments teacher and it's it's it's kind of a blessing it's a blessing for us but my husband and I do say you know. Net that's what you type in in that box okay I was able to do that thank you so much any other question I want to share No Worse the website so they can see where they can look at this at any time so yes we need to have a Zune just to help parents navigate our website cuz there's a lot of information on there and want to be able to find it there's nothing more frustrating than not being able to find info you need the we updated quite regularly cuz as a parent I know how hard it is when you got that limited amount of time to do something and you can't find me info so our website is www.portillos.com and there's a bunch of information you can get up here or right now I wanted to focus on what we're talkin about so if you look at the news announcement section you'll see the 20 2021 school year opening information this includes the things that go in that are in the letter that is being mailed to you and were also sent to your email they're also here in case you want to double-check them and you don't have easy access to otherwise including the dates of Texas distribution the orientations which might answer some of your questions and then here is where today's meeting is so this link will probably be removed are Friday but will still have access to the scare the school with you Parent Portal new parent presentation this is a presentation that was just given to you just the document but you can see if you forget any of the information you can go to any of the links straight to your for yourself to review and it also has the information here like it quick in order to get onto the school G site okay can we go back to the website mistlin so can we go to that textbook the same place where you were so here click on the link for example the 6th grade is next Tuesday but you want to click on the link it's a specifically why child's off a time is in this is normally it would be a little bit more flexible but this year as you can imagine we're trying very hard to control and limit the number of students on campus for their safety and for your wait time we don't want you waiting for an hour we want to make it as quickly as possible we ask that you do not come on a time or day that's not yours like sixth graders shouldn't come on 7th you're afraid because the books right now we are spending days and nights organizing them into piles so we if it's greater comes on a 7th grade day we don't have a 6th grade books ready for that so our goal is you drive up the kids get out to get their schedule we have in the pilot book and then we want to make it as as easy and smooth for you as possible so if you come on the wrong day we have the right textbooks out for your child okay he can't come during a date or time that we've assigned once again don't worry we will have other makeup days and times okay.
