Resource Support Program (RSP)

The role of the Resource Support Program (RSP) is to provide tailored instructional services to students with disabilities based upon the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team’s determination that a student’s special needs can successfully be met within this least restrictive environment.  Grade level content standards and curriculum provide the foundation for all instruction within the RSP general education classroom, with the resource specialist teacher collaborating with the general education teacher to enable an identified student to successfully access the general education curriculum.  This collaborative model that is the heart of the RSP environment allows students to participate fully in general education classrooms with specialized support for their identified needs.

Each student receiving special education services through the Resource Program will be assigned a case manager. The resource specialist teacher is the designated case manager for students who receive support through co-teaching, co-planning and direct service to the student in the classroom environment.  As a case manager, the resource specialist is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the IEP services for students assigned to his/her caseload.

Students receiving resource support can also take advantage of additional support such as the Learning Center as their elective.  The purpose of the Learning Center is to provide students with learning challenges the needed supplementary, direct instructional services in content, learning strategies, and progress monitoring in the academics areas of English and Mathematics. Instruction in the Learning Center is based upon students’ performance within the general education program and the demonstration of their academic strengths and needs.
